analysis on the 15-channel instrument. Consequently, erythrocyte indices can be measured, when indicated, afteranalysison the 15-channelinstrument. In summary, we have demonstrated that screening for GPD deficiency and hemoglobin S isfeasibleat a rateof 120/hour when coupled to the 15-channel instrument. The reverse-washout cycle on the sample probe of the bloodtyping instrument obviates sample mixing from one specimen to the next of the sort noted in attempts to operate the dual channel sampler at 120/hour. In addition, the amount of plasma and red cells aspirated by the dual probe of the 15-channel sampler is so nearly equal as to permit further analysis on the whole blood once the screeningtests have been performed.

Manual and continuous-flow colorimetry of triacylglycerols by a fully enzymic method.
We describe a fully enzymic method for manual and continuous-flow colorimetric assay of triacylglycerols (triglycerides) in serum. Triglycerides are enzymically hydrolyzed in 10 min by lipase and microbial esterase. The resulting free glycerol is measured enzymically by glycerol kinase and glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase. The NADH so formed is oxidized by coupling with a tetrazolium salt/dia...
متن کاملSimplified technic for the determination of serum protein-bound iodine.
A simplified technic for the determination of serum protein-bound iodine (PBI) is presented. Endogenouslylabeled 1131 PBI is completely recovered. The technic is basedon the method of Barker et al. (1) and includes the following modifications: The number of washesof the precipitated serum proteins are decreased. Unashed iodide standards are used in a sodium carbonate solution rather than an int...
متن کاملSimplified manual micromethod for determination of serum triglycerides.
This rapid, simplified assay for serum triglycerides is based on the use of a more effective solvent extraction procedure, ethoxide transesterification, and color development with acetylacetone. No phospholipid adsorption step is necessary. The procedure requires less than 0.2 ml of serum, no expensive or elaborate apparatus, and 5 to 10 values can be obtained per hour, with better precision th...
متن کاملFluorometric and colorimetric enzymic determination of triglycerides (triacylglycerols) in serum.
We describe two fully enzymic methods, fluorometric and colorimetric, for determination of triglycerides (triacylglycerols) in serum. Samples are incubated with microbial lipase for 10 min, and the glycerol released from the triglycerides is oxidized by NAD+ in the presence of glycerol dehydrogenase. In the fluorometric method, the resulting NADH is in turn oxidized by resazurin as catalyzed by...
متن کاملTo initially characterize nitrocellulose as an optimal substrate for fluorescent signal detection of antibodies
Point-of-care (POC) diagnostics tools provide lowcost methods of disease detection in low resource settings. Our current platform detects antibodies in serum to recombinant protein biomarkers on glass substrate. Most commercial POC tests utilize nitrocellulose lateral flow format with colorimetric detection. Nitrocellulose enables fluid handling, serum filtration, better protein immobilization,...
